Exceprts from thirtystories

INTRO
Her name was Maya. And some would say She lost her way. But she knew exactly
where she was going. Who she was. What she wanted.
Didn’t her mother tell her not to be like anyone else? She wasn’t, She couldn’t.
But she knew who she was, where she was going, what she wanted.
It’s just the in between that was confusing.
And made 30 days and 30 nights and 30 dreams or maybe 30 realities.

Day 2
The young couple walked along slowly through the trees. Sometimes, they touched just briefly arm
against arm leg against leg.
They were laughing the whole time. The world was light and funny. It had its silliness.
Then, he stopped, gently pulling her hair, he told her he had to go. He kissed her before he turned
and rose to the sky. Looking up she watched a boy become a bird and fly.

Day 7
Almost missing her train she rushed in and didn’t look when she sat. Only when the train lurched
forward did she look up. He was staring at her. Lost in his ipod she thought. Really, he was lost in
her with the soundtrack to his boy’s new mixtape playing somewhere in the background. He seemed
young, younger then her. Maybe 5 yrs, maybe 10. She stared back. He wanted to touch her face, her
body. They stood at the same time. For the same stop. Their arms touched and the doors opened.
Then she was gone. He watched her fade into the crowd.
Day 22
It was twilight and the sun was setting. Across the river, she could see the city as the lights started
to go on.
Weren’t her dreams supposed to come true in this place? Had she lost her wishes, her heart, her way?
Fists clenched on the cold bars, tears pouring down her face. Staring at the dark current, when her
friend touched her shoulder and said, “So, Sorry, I’m late.”

Day 25
“Let me tell you about me.” she said. “I know about you, I read your profile
10 times, 20, maybe 30. I don’t know.”
“What do you know?” he said softly. So she could barely hear. Sipping a beer he stared at her.
Laughing she thought. “Well, you don’t say alot.”
Smiling, he whispered “And you probably say too much.”
